About Us

McLean Care® is a long-established and well-respected provider of the highest quality community, retirement and aged care lifestyle services and options. We proudly remain a community owned, not for profit organisation, driven by our mission “to focus on you”. From humble beginnings back in 1953, McLean Care® has grown to become one of the largest providers in the North-West region of NSW and Darling Downs region of QLD.

McLean Care® provides services to over 1,200 people, in an area of almost 185,000 square km’s, employing over 350 staff. We have met all accreditation, certification, quality reporting and legislative requirements for all funded programmes, and have been recognised on a regional basis as a leader in the provision of innovative and evidence-based quality aged care services.

We have a real passion for our communities, and a talented and skilled team is employed at both of our residential facilities and in our Home and Community service areas. Our fully qualified and dedicated Aged Care and Home Care Employees are passionate about providing the care you need, the way you want.

At the centre of the McLean Care® model of care is each individual person, and at the core of that model are fundamental approaches that we take to ensure that all of the care we provide is individual, and person-centred. Where it all began

Hector Neil McLean, a man of proud Scottish heritage after whom the organisation is named, was born at Ellerston in the Hunter Valley, NSW on 5th December 1856. He lived most of his life in Inverell, and was regarded as a very community-minded citizen. He served on Council, and was committed to a dream of establishing a Convalescent Hospital.

Upon his death, on 29th March 1932, a provision of Mr. McLean’s Will designated that a hospital be established on his property ‘Killean’, the present site of the McLean Care® Inverell residential facilities. A condition of Mr. McLean’s Will directed that the financial estate be invested for a period of ten years. This expired in the midst of World War II, which delayed the construction of the convalescent hospital until 1951, due to the difficulty of acquiring building materials. The founding stone was laid on 17th November 1951, and the building was completed in 1953.

During its period of operation, the hospital provided an essential service to Inverell and surrounds, but as transport improved, and the need for convalescent-type care declined, it was recognised that a great void in aged care was developing.





Our Board of Directors and Executive Leadership Team consists of highly experienced individuals with a vast array of skill sets and professional attributes. However, despite extensive tertiary education and associated qualifications, it is our resolute shared respect for one another and steadfast motivation to be driven by ethical and social factors that defines our capability. Accordingly, we are constantly at the helm of inspiring innovation, challenging accepted wisdoms and engaging with those around us to not only influence, but strategically determine the future of our organisation. This shared understanding of social and ethical decision making is central to all that we do and is our foundation for being.
